Here are a few things, which every individual, be it a man or woman, a girl or boy should read especially if you’re living in a society where many narrow thinking minds still exist! I’m not very sure about other countries but am sure about still many places in India and its neighboring countries.
1. Not every girl wants to get married by 23. So before you ASSUME she’s of marriageable age, ask her what her views on marriage are. One hint, might save you the drama – just because she doesn’t want to get married now doesn’t mean she never will. She has other plans for herself right now, let her live a little.
2. Just because a girl wishes to do her PhD after Masters doesn’t mean she does not want to settle down in life. Give her a break, and respect the fact that she has the confidence to take that up, coz yeah, PhD is no joke. There will come a time when she would happily devote herself to her family, and balance it out with her work life. Her degrees, or lack of them, won’t make any difference. Let her study while she wants to, okay?
3. Just because she is 27 and unmarried does not mean she has been rejected by many men. Maybe, being single is a choice she has made.
4. Having a boyfriend does not make her characterless.
5. Just because she has recently gone through a break-up doesn’t mean she is vulnerable and available.
6. Just because most of her friends are boys, does not mean she is “having a good time” with all of them.
7. Just because she has a drink in her hand does not mean she is an alcoholic.
8. Just because she wore a short skirt to one party does not mean she dresses up that way everyday.
9. Just because she is ambitious does not mean she isn’t a family person.
10. Just because she doesn’t discuss her plans doesn’t mean she is clueless about life. Give her a chance, alright?
11. Just because she is outspoken does not mean she is a rebel.
12. Just because she comes home late from work does not mean that she is sleeping around with her colleagues.
13. After a hectic week, give her some time to relax over the weekend. Don’t make that one weekend party make her look like she’s a frivolous party-girl without a job.
14. Just because she is out shopping alone does not mean she is depressed or lonely. It’s probably how she relaxes, respect that.
15. Just because she is on a holiday alone doesn’t mean she lacks company. Maybe it’s a break to get back her lost confidence, or maybe that’s how she is. Admire her spirit instead of giving advice, okay?
16. Just because she is a woman does not mean she can’t kick ass in military school. (Apologies for the slang here, but it’s really required :P)
17. Just because she has a tattoo does not mean she is attention-seeking. Maybe that’s her way of expression.
18. Just because she does not know how to cook doesn’t mean she won’t make a good wife. Remember when you cooked something like chicken curry for the first time which was um, a disaster?
19. Just because she likes everything pink and shiny and fluffy doesn’t mean she lives in her own world. She can handle some situations better than her male counterparts.
20. Just because she is pretty does not mean she is a whore. And just because she is friendly does not mean she is flirting with you!
Yes, we cry, we are emotional, we take things personally, and sometimes over-react to situations. But this does not give anyone the right to judge us in the wrong way. Times are changing; don’t confine her within those boundaries, no matter how orthodox you are. There are some who might be fighting this losing battle, yet compromising on their decisions and plans, just to please society. It’s high time it changes!
Cheers to all the girls and ladies!! 🙂

Well, I basically read non-fictions on philosophy, psychology and politics but I also enjoy certain fictions depending on their themes and my mood. 🙂

My choice is very same too.. on psychology, have you gone through works of Robert green? suggest me somthing into political books..

Yeah I’ve read two of Robert Greene’s books – Mastery and The 50th law, I liked Mastery better. There are plenty books to choose from but I’ll name my favourite two – ‘Team of Rivals’ by Doris Kearns Goodwin, ‘Let’s kill Gandhi’ by Tushar A. Gandhi, if you’re into psychology and philosophy, do read ‘The Fountainhead’ by Ayn Rand, it’s an amazing book 🙂

Fountainhead is an amazing book, I also went through it last month.. However, I will try to see ‘Lets kill Gandhi’ soon too.
Guys of this generation, due to some kind of myths or something don’t respect Gandhi ji Enough.. What views you have about Gandhi ji?

‘Let’s kill Gandhi’ is quite thick, but it’s worth it! Well not respecting a person (no matter who that is) is definitely not a good thing to do, so yes, I do respect him but I don’t think it’ll be appropriate to present my views on Sh. M.K. Gandhi so publicly…!!

Lol.. Then i suspect you have some secret feelings for him.. which you dont want anyone to know haha..
Robert green is actually more known for his book 48 laws of power and then ART of seduction.. If you can put some time, dont miss them

I went through a short summary of those books and they didn’t very much catch my interest so I dropped the idea of reading them. But thanks, I’ll re-consider it.

A very insightful and thought provoking post, especially points 6 and 9. I know that point 3 rings true for me as a man, and it must be tough for a woman undergoing immense pressure from peers to get married.

You’re welcome, I enjoyed reading it 🙂 Yes, times are definitely changing, and have you noticed men and women are coming together out of love instead of convenience and financial dependence?

Yeah absolutely! Even countries like India and Pakistan are undergoing this change, love is what matters more than castes or finances. People are standing up for love. Let’s hope to see this change become a normal part of our lives 🙂

I agree, we should not make assumptions about people whether they be male or female. People are individuals, you can’t say all girls (or boys) are such and such because they all possess their own personalaties and aspirations.

I found it interesting and I enjoyed reading it. We must not assume or jump to conclusions. Very often we are wrong. Happy to know that what happens in my own country happens also in India and other places. As Melissa says, narrow minds exist everywhere. People are the same everywhere. Thanks for liking the things I write. I’ll always be here.

Way to be confident in yourself and saying what many women in this world think but,for various reasons, do not have the ability to say. You are blessed, indeed,to have the eloquence and platform to make such things known!
