Magnification Of The Self

“Every man who knows how to read has it in his power to magnify himself, to multiply the ways in which he exists, to make his life full, significant and interesting,” says Aldous Huxley.

This is true, practical wisdom. A person, especially a youngster, struggling to find a place in the world, often overlooks the sagacity of such words. He chases imaginary rainbows and comes to deep disappointments. According to me, a magnificent person is –

One whose object of pursuit is not tainted by anger, pleasure, arrogance, abashment, ego and over-estimation of one-self, is known as a wise person.

One whose actions, condulations and innermost thoughts are not known to anybody until the work is done.

One whose work is not stopped by the impediments like the heat and cold, fear and courage, poverty and wealth.

A person who wishes and does only such good action according to one’s might without underestimating anything, such discriminating soul.

One who hears about a subject attentively and calmly, having a quick grasping power, knowingly performs his duty for the attainment of object of pursuit, one who never interferes in other’s affairs unless invited to do so.

One who craves not for unattainable worldly things, one who weeps not for lost things, one who is not afraid during the difficulties.

A person who decides first and then acts, once begun stops not in the middle, one who wastes not the precious time, and hold the mind under control.

One whose knowledge follows the intellect and one whose intelligence follows wisdom.

One who is not egoistic even though is endowed with wealth, wisdom and prosperity.

If we manage to imbibe even half of these, we’ll indeed be on a greater path of self-discovery and of becoming better human beings, thus discovering life with all the good that it possesses and facing the hardships head-on as they come! 🙂

Love and Peace to all ❤

You Are Fine. They Are Not

cold

Take this moment, then replace it. Turn it so it fits, releases and sits. It was unsteady and rocking, now it is stable and eternal. Their moments are colossal and uncontrolled, spilling and temporary.

You are fine. They are not.

Smile in initial meeting, offer your hand in grace and in respect. Receive an icy gaze and a cold, dampened temper.

You are fine. They are not.

Express freely and discuss passion, poetry, daily imperfections and opinions. Observe them clam up and become enclosed without identity.

You are fine. They are not.

Be willing and grateful, offering and the first to stand in. See them sit in solitary silence.

You are fine. They are not.

Speak out and be upright and a flexible, deepened knight. Notice how they remain reluctant and uptight, rigid and firm.

You are fine. They are not.

They whine, depress, drag and sink. You state in an honest, uplifting mission, daring and afloat.

You are fine. They are not.

They drone, bore, wear and remain. You keep, share, preserve and leave.

You are fine. They are not.

They have nowhere else to be. You simply be anywhere.

You are fine. They are not.

They dwindle. You twinkle. They want what is you. You they are not, and you are not them.

You are fine. They are not.

*MUSIC*

I returned home from my guitar practice and couldn’t think of something different to do. I decided to sketch. And I sketched the picture of a guitar.

Yes!! I sketched it…!!CAM00000

As I was lost in self-admiration (I’m not that good an artist), I realized just how much do I love music! Yes, I know I’ve always enjoyed it but this time I was wondering what would I do if it simply didn’t exist? What would we all do? And wrote this….

Music is the spice of life
Adding interest, variety, verve
It makes us happy and touches our soul
And inspires us to rock and roll.

We laugh and cry and jump and twist
Music wipes away sorrow, there’s no cloud or mist.
It transforms us from one state to another
It soothes us just like the arms of our own mother.

Just when our worries start to increase,
Music is what brings the mind back to peace!
Life without music would be no life at all,
The absence of music would make it gray and fall.

So, enliven up your day, with just a song,
And may your lives be lovely and long!

Are you listening?

Haven’t turned my back on the “Gods”
just religion…
I can’t cry and I’m tired of suffering…
Are you listening?

Asked them to ease the pain but they don’t listen…
So achieving freedom is now my mission…

Wishing this was the end instead of the beginning, following my heart aka intuition…

Walking along the path that I’m on I try to commit no wrong, my heart plays the song and my conscious sings along…

Greed and hatred is realities theme, no longer do I sleep to the Utopian dream.

Sitting here writing my thoughts some may consider it a poem, for me it’s the pain being released from its dark home.

Put my soul into this song, drowning in my misery…
It’s too late to save me so just roll along…
Only thing I ask is read this, share it and sing along…

Power in words, heart warming and conscious strong.
Sharing the words needed to change things to becoming rights and no wrongs……

Become free of Hatred

images (6)What is true devotion? Is it mere allegiance to a particular deity or prophet? Does it necessitate a change in lifestyle? How does one know if one qualifies as a devotee? In Chapter 12 of the Bhagwad Gita, Krishna lists 35 qualities of a devotee that help assess our spiritual level as well as develop the qualities to evolve further.

The first quality is ‘advesta sarvabhutanam’, one who hates no being. Yet the worst battles have been fought in the name of religion. People who profess to have devotion to the Lord often have conflict-ridden relationships. Devotion is not about professing love to God, it is the ability to love all. How can we love an unknown, unseen God when we dislike those we interact with daily?

The world lacks inclusive love. Everyone is deeply entrenched in feelings of otherness, antagonism and bitterness. This springs from insecurity and we project imaginary enemies. Partners are viewed as opponents, benefactors are viewed with suspicion and we end up utterly lonely and isolated. The Gita says there are no adversaries out there. Our worst foes are within. It is our lack of self-sufficiency that projects enemies outside.

Even the love people claim is not true love. It is attachment, self-love. We expect returns from the person we love, make demands and impose restrictions. Ultimately the relationship breaks down. Attachment is the single most important cause of friction between spouses and the yawning gap between parents and children.

The solution is to become detached. People misunderstand detachment as giving up relationships. Many reject the idea and continue to suffer the devastating effects of attachment. A few give up their families and suffer. There are three states of being – indifference or lack of feeling, attachment or selfish love and detachment or pure love. The Gita asks us to give up selfishness which comes in the way of meaningful relationships. Continue the association but let go of expectations and demands.

Let’s assess the people around us; understand them for what they are. Then we will not have unreasonable expectations of them. Do we hate a lion for its ferocity? Do we dislike a deer for its timidity? Do we get upset if a dog barks at us? No. We understand that they all function according to their nature. As long as we feel negatively about anyone we will suffer, not the other person. If we want to be free of stress we must address our most intense dislikes.

In the past, the extended family lived together, harmoniously. Now, even nuclear families are breaking up because of selfishness. Single parents are becoming the norm! Let us enlarge our circle of love. Identify with the larger community. As our love expands, the friction in the existing relationships reduces and we become truly happy.

When we think of our body, we see maximum separateness. Move to our mind and we see oneness within the family. Identify with the intellect and we see oneness among all. It does not matter whether they are educated or not, wealthy or poor, refined or crude. They are all ours. Take the leap into the realm of the Spirit and all differences vanish. We see ourselves in all beings and all beings in our own self. We will be free of hatred. 🙂
